In 1974, William Godwin, pastor of a local church in Gainesville, decided to start a roofing company for extra income. He built a respected company based on strong values, good business ethics and high-quality work. Godwin Roofing thrived for many years on “word of mouth” advertising alone. Christopher Tenney, his grandson, began helping out during summer vacations, and continued to work with his grandfather all through college, keeping the high standards in effect and growing the company. Chris graduated from the University of Florida in 2008 and renamed the firm Godwin Green Roofing (GGR) to reflect his focus on energy-efficient roofing and home improvements. Today, GGR is the leading residential roofing contractor in North Central Florida, with more than 1,000 successful re-roofs completed since 2009, the year he formally took over management. Godwin now also has a growing commercial roofing division. The company is an Excellence in Safety Award winner, and protects it’s staff members and clients alike with full workers compensation coverage and a $1 million liability insurance policy.
“I handle all estimates and sales personally, to guarantee our customers the highest quality service — and the most enjoyable roofing experience around! ” — Chris Tenney, president.
