In 1974, William Godwin, pastor of a local church in Gainesville, decided to start a roofing company built on strong values, good business ethics, and high-quality work. Godwin Roofing thrived for years on word-of-mouth alone.
Christopher Tenney, his grandson, began helping out during summer vacations and worked with his grandfather all through college. Chris graduated from the University of Florida in 2008 and renamed the firm Godwin Green Roofing to reflect his focus on energy-efficient roofing and home improvements.

Owner Christopher Tenney has completed six 'Rebuilding Together' charity roofs as lead supervisor of volunteer crews — providing free roofing to local homeowners who cannot afford to fix their own roofs.
Boots on the Roof — NCFRA
As president of the North Central Florida Roofing Association, Chris helps organize 'Boots on the Roof' — an annual program that selects two homeowners at Christmas to receive a complete free re-roof. All materials and labor are donated by association members.
University of Florida Partnership
Several times a year Chris teams up with the University of Florida Rinker Construction School to help organize, educate, and supervise UF students in completing an entire re-roof project for local homeowners who cannot afford to fix their roofs themselves.
